I interviewed for a position within my company last week. I would like to write a Thank You note.?

Any samples you could provide would be appreciated. Also, The decision is going to be almost immediate. Would it be proper to leave it on the interviewee's desk since we work in the same building? Mail won';t reach them before the decision is made.
